Field Study Tour in Japan-2025

2025.09.04

【Program】

From August 24 to September 1, we invited 20 students and professors from five ASEAN countries (Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) to Japan for the “Field Study Tour in Japan.”

The purpose of this program was to deepen participants’ understanding of Japan’s advanced Food Value Chain (FVC), and to develop human resources who can apply this knowledge to build FVCs in their own countries. Participants visited the following food-related companies, farms, organizations, and research facilities to observe operations on-site.

[Site Visits (in order of visit, total 10 organizations):]
• JA Wakayama (Direct sales shop, Logistics Center, and Farmland)
• JA Lake Shiga
• Marutane (Research Farm)
• Kameoka Organic Farm, Katamoto Farm
• Yusen Logistics (Ohi Wharf)
• Mayekawa MFG (Moriya Plant)
• Narita Wholesale Market
• Yoshinoya Holdings (Meat and Vegetable Processing Factory)
• AGF Kanto (Processing Factory)
• Shimadzu Corporation (Tokyo Innovation Plaza)

On the final day of the program, students gave group presentations by country, sharing the knowledge they had gained through the site visits. They also proposed action plans based on how the insights could be applied to address challenges in their home countries. This not only helped them clearly recognize the issues facing their own countries, but also provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the differences between Japan and their respective nations.

During the program, participants also had the chance to experience Japanese culture with the cooperation of Yumeyakata, including a tea ceremony activity, which provided meaningful cultural learning.

This program was made possible thanks to the generous support of the companies and organizations we visited. We deeply appreciate their warm hospitality, as well as the valuable knowledge and technologies they shared related to Japan’s FVC.
